In every school needs an athletic director to supervise the athletic programs. An athletic director is a former experienced coach or educational administrator and normally accepts full-time administrative duties for the school. The candidate oversees the athletic teams regularly and performs an annual evaluation of the coaches.
Being an athletic director may allow the candidate to coach athletes part-time. Creating the athletic programs of the school includes setting the tournament schedules and communicating with school officials regarding athletic events and student athletes. The athletes are recruit or chosen based on try-outs, trained regularly, and recognized for their outstanding performance in competitions.
Athletic Competition
The budget for athletic practices, supplies, and tournaments is also the responsibility of the athletic director. The candidate communicates with the coaches about the team performances. An athletic director reports to the school principal and to the district athletic director. The athletic program of the school is reviewed regularly to determine what improvements can be made. The athletic competitions to be implemented are evaluated first. The purpose of creating athletic competitions is to foster sportsmanship between the school’s athletes and its rivals. When the athletic team of the school wins in a game, the athletic director’s efforts are recognized through the school principal.
Athletic Behavior
The athletes of a school are selected for a particular sports tean for the whole school year or just while the sport is in season. In preparing for competitions, practices are held regularly without affecting the students’ studies negatively. Potential athletes are checked for their backgrounds when they are transferees. Discipline has to be instilled into the athletes to make them realize the value of cooperation and teamwork. For athletes who are under scrutiny for unacceptable behavior, the athletic director is responsible for disciplining and helping them to improve. Due process has to be given, whether the athlete stays with the team or is removed from the roster.
Collaboration with other Athletic Directors
The athletic director communicates with fellow athletic directors to determine whether the standards of athletics are met in their respective schools. They meet at least once a year for business agendas. The facilities for the athletic competitions are discussed with the chairperson of physical education. In discussing athletic competitions, the advertising and publicity are included. Before athletes can join competitions, they have to be given athletic insurance forms that must be approved. In the case of any injury during a competition, first aid is given.
Athletic Meets
When it comes to competitions, commissioners and all game officials are given contracts. The rival athletics team and all visitors are welcomed for the games. As an athletic director, all meetings that request the candidate’s presence have to be attended. This includes school, state, regional, and national in nature. When the opportunity arises that committee membership is needed for the athletic director, the candidate chooses which committee is suited for him or her. Outside the school, an athletic director can accept to have a personal radio or television show when offered. This boosts the candidate’s reputation as credible and authoritative.
